World Teacher Day is promoted by UNESCO, the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNDP, UNICEF and the Education International (EI).
The day honors teachers and their vital role in raising our children and preparing them for the workforce and adulthood. The date commemorates the October 5, 1966 intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris, which adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendations concerning the Status of Teachers worldwide. This event has been recognized each year since 1994.
